Biography
Andrew has been a librarian with the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library since April, 1997. He earned his M.L.S. degree at the University of South Florida's School of Library & Information Science in 1996. He has also earned an M.A. in Middle Eastern History at the University of Maryland, and a B.A. in History & Asian Studies at Towson University.
Andrew began his library career as an adjunct librarian in the Reference Department of the University of South Florida's Tampa Campus Library where he worked for 3 years. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member at USF's School of Library & Information Science, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses for basic reference and Internet resources. He is an active member of the American Library Association and the Florida Library Association, and is a regular contributor of the annual conferences of both organizations.
In his time at the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library, Andrew has held a variety of positions including: Coordinator of the Electronic Reference & Information Department - the library's consolidated call center and Hillsborough County InfoL!ne; Reference & Information Services Coordinator; and Chief Librarian for the South County Region, South Tampa Region & the John F. Germany Public Library. He was most recently the Manager of Library Technology & Collections, coordinating the library's print and digital collections, and online access through hcplc.org - the Online Library. Andrew has been instrumental in bringing online databases, eBooks and downloadable/streaming movies, music and courses to the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library.
Andrew volunteers with First Robotics, judging for First Tech Challenge events in the Tampa Bay Area. He enjoys traveling around the Southwestern United States where he can be found hiking, visiting Native American ruins and looking for the perfect green chili cheeseburger.
He began the duties of Library Director on February 9, 2015.
